Eye lens dose assessment in interventional cardiology

چکیده
Introduction: Medical professionals performing fluoroscopy guided interventional procedures in cardiology are exposed to a risk of radiation induced cataract, especially if the eye lens dose exceeds annual limit 20 mSv. Aim: The aim current study is measure exposure three departments, analyze relationship between patient and effectiveness lead goggles without side protection. Material methods: Measurements were performed departments with participation 4 cardiologists 6 nurses. was measured EYE-D TM (Radcard) passive dosimeters. Results: For nurses varied from 1.6 mSv 4.3 results 3.2 31.4 reduction factor studied safety protection 1 1.1. Conclusions : There exceeding among depends on workload clinical complexity procedures, as well use devices. Due specifics recommended. for lower than limit, which can be explained larger distance partial shielding by main operator. Lead glasses not recommended because occurs side.

Influence of dosemeter position for the assessment of eye lens dose during interventional cardiology.
The equivalent dose limit for the eye lens for occupational exposure recommended by the ICRP has been reduced to 20 mSv y(-1) averaged over defined periods of 5 y, with no single year exceeding 50 mSv. The compliance with this new requirement could not be easy in some workplace such as interventional radiology and cardiology. The aim of this study is to evaluate different possible approaches in...
متن کاملOccupational Eye Lens Dose in Interventional Radiology and Cardiology: New Insights
The advances in digital imaging and the improvement in interventional tools and devices like catheters and stents have expanded the use of interventional procedures. During the period 1998-2008, the total number of interventional procedures increased by 78% [1]. Interventional radiology [IR] and cardiology [IC] procedures deliver high radiation doses both to patients and medical personnel, whic...
متن کاملEye lens dosimetry in interventional cardiology: results of staff dose measurements and link to patient dose levels.
Workers involved in interventional cardiology procedures receive high eye lens dose if protection is not used. Currently, there is no suitable method for routine use for the measurement of eye dose. Since most angiography machines are equipped with suitable patient dosemeters, deriving factors linking staff eye doses to the patient doses can be helpful. In this study the patient kerma-area prod...
متن کاملMeasurements of eye lens doses in interventional cardiology using OSL and electronic dosemeters†.
The purpose of this paper is to test the appropriateness of OSL and electronic dosemeters to estimate eye lens doses at interventional cardiology environment. Using TLD as reference detectors, personal dose equivalent was measured in phantoms and during clinical procedures. For phantom measurements, OSL dose values resulted in an average difference of -15 % vs. TLD. Tests carried out with other...
متن کاملRadiation-induced eye lens changes and risk for cataract in interventional cardiology.
BACKGROUND Recent studies have reported a significant increase in eye lens opacities among staff in the cardiac catheterization laboratory but indicated further studies are needed to confirm the findings. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence of opacities in eyes of cardiologists, radiographers and nurses working in interventional cardiology. METHODS The eyes of 52 staff in interventional ca...
